For accounting firms

A law firm? This way

Client documents, out of email.

Pertavo holds the engagement: its documents, its messages, the dates it turns on, the hours against it, and the signature at the end. It is not tax software and it does not file anything — it is the place the client-facing half of the work happens.

01What it does

The engagement, and
everything on it.

Each one checkable against the running product before you talk to anybody.

  1. Engagements, not folders

Every document, message, task, filing date and hour files onto one engagement with your own reference on it. Open it and the file is there, whole.

    How it works
  2. Collect without attachments

Your client uploads into the engagement from a link. Nothing arrives as an attachment, and nothing sits in two mailboxes waiting to be found in March.

    How it works
  3. The engagement letter writes itself

Keep it once with the engagement’s details as merge fields. Generate it filed on the engagement, then send it for signature without leaving the page.

    How it works
  4. Signed in the browser

Place the fields, send it, and your client signs by drawing, typing or uploading. The signature is written into the PDF, so the signed file opens anywhere.

    How it works
  5. Told when it moves

Uploads, assignments and status changes reach the right person as they happen. You stop asking whether the last thing arrived.

    How it works
  6. The bill comes off the engagement

Hours logged on the engagement carry the rate they were charged at. Draft an invoice from them and from the expenses, set anything the client has already paid on account against it, and send it — Pertavo keeps the number, the status and whether the email actually reached them.

    How it works
  7. Your vocabulary, set once

The whole product reads engagements, service lines and CPAs because your firm said it is an accounting firm. Nothing else differs — it is one product for two professions.

    How it works
The conflict check does not file a report you read later. It stops the matter until somebody has looked at what it found and said so.

02What it does not

Four things worth
knowing before a demo.

What Pertavo leaves out is the reason you can believe the rest of it.

  • It is not tax software.

No returns, no forms, no filing, and no integration with anything that does those.

  • No docketing.

Filing and limitation dates are dates somebody types. Nothing computes one from a rulebook, and nothing sends a reminder.

  • No way for a client to pay you here.

An invoice goes out from Pertavo, but it is settled by bank transfer or however you already take money, and somebody at the firm records that it arrived. There is no card payment and no payment link on the invoice.

  • Nothing syncs but the diary.

Your deadlines and appointments go out as a calendar you subscribe to from Outlook, Google or Apple, and it arrives when that app feels like re-reading it. Nothing else connects: no email, no accounts package, no API to build against — and nothing reads back in.

Everything else this product does and does not do is written down in the documentation, before you talk to anybody.

03Three questions

The ones firms
ask first.

Answered here, so you do not have to spend half an hour on a call finding out.

Do my clients pay anything?
No. You subscribe as a firm and invite your clients in; they create a password from the invitation link and use the portal at no cost. Plan limits count clients, not seats you pay for separately.
We already use tax software. Does this replace it?
No, and it does not integrate with it either. Pertavo is where documents are collected, work is organised and signatures are taken. What you do with those documents afterwards happens in whatever you already use.
Why does the product say engagement in some places and matter in others?
It should say engagement everywhere for you. Pertavo runs one product for accounting firms and law firms and swaps the vocabulary per firm — engagement, service line and CPA on your side; matter, practice area and attorney on theirs. If you are seeing the wrong words, an owner can correct it in Settings → Organization.
