Comparison
All comparisonsPertavo
vs PracticePanther.
Written by us, so read it that way. The prices below came off their own pricing page on the date shown; everything we say about our own product you can make it do on a call.
The short answer
PracticePanther is the closest of the suites to a small firm on price and simplicity, and it still charges per person. If you need the billing and the trust ledger, that is the right trade. If you do not, you are buying seats for a system you use a third of.
01Reasons to buy PracticePanther
Theirs first,
and not hedged.
If none of these matter to your firm, the rest of the page is worth reading. If one of them does, it probably settles it.
A full suite at the friendlier end of the market
Billing and invoicing from the entry tier, the whole matter lifecycle, and a product that small firms consistently describe as straightforward. If you want the breadth, this is a sensible place to buy it.
Automation across the practice
Workflows that fire when something changes, across parts of the firm we do not touch at all. We have nothing comparable and are not pretending to.
Years of small firms using it
A long track record with exactly the size of firm this page is written for. We are new, and that is a real difference in your risk, not ours.
02The price model
Per seat,
or per firm.
Read off practicepanther.com/pricing on 6 October 2026. Per user, per month; the lower figure is the annual rate. Their page puts trust accounting on the Business Pro tier and describes court-rules calendaring as needing a separate LawToolBox subscription — check it yourself before deciding, because this is their page to change and not ours.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual | × 4 people, monthly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solo | $59 | $49 | $236 |
| Essential | $79 | $69 | $316 |
| Business | $99 | $89 | $396 |
| Business Pro | $124 | $114 | $496 |
| Pertavo Professional | $59 | $49 | $59 |
The last column is the point. Ours does not have one per headcount because the headcount is not in it — and the comparison is only fair once you subtract whatever you would still pay for the parts we do not do, which are listed below.
03What Pertavo does not do
The four that
decide most of this.
Every negative on this page is about us. We have not written a word about what PracticePanther cannot do, because we are not in a position to know.
No trust accounting
Money a client paid up front is held against the matter and spent down by an invoice — but no segregated accounts, no three-way reconciliation, no bar reporting.
No way to pay you inside it
An invoice goes out from Pertavo. It is settled however you already take money, and somebody at the firm records that it arrived.
No docketing
Dates are typed by somebody. Nothing computes a limitation period from a rulebook, and nothing sends a reminder.
Nothing syncs but the diary
Your dates go out as a calendar you subscribe to. Nothing else connects — no email, no accounts package, no API — and nothing reads back in.
04Where Pertavo is the better buy
Four reasons,
if the gaps did not stop you.
Flat per firm, not per user
Their published Solo tier is $59 per user per month billed monthly, $49 billed annually. Four people on Business at $99 is $396 a month; our Professional plan is $59 a month at any headcount.
A conflict check that interrupts
The matter is not created until somebody has read what the search found and ticked to say so, and the tick is stored against the matter.
Ethical walls enforced at the database
One gate, used by every service that can reach a matter. A screen that hides a document is not the same thing as a request that is refused.
Narrow on purpose
We do the matter and its client-facing half. Everything we do not do is on this page rather than three clicks into a feature matrix.
05Three questions
The ones that
come up on the call.
- Does Pertavo do trust accounting?
- Not in the regulated sense, and not soon. Pertavo records what a client has paid you against a matter and what has been spent from it, which answers “how much of theirs are we holding” — but there are no segregated client accounts, no three-way reconciliation and no bar reporting. If your practice area turns on holding client funds — personal injury, real estate closings — a suite is the right answer and we will say so on the call.
- What about court deadlines?
- Dates live on the matter and somebody types them. Nothing computes a limitation period from any court’s rules and nothing sends a reminder. If docketing is where your risk sits, keep a tool that does it.
- Can we try it against our own files?
- Yes, and that is what we would rather you did than watch a demo. We set the firm up; you put a few real matters into it yourself, through the portal rather than by email, which is the thing being demonstrated.
